Maximize Your 2025 Benefits: Smart Physio Billing Made Easy

Physiotherapy treatments administered by a registered physiotherapist in BC are covered under extended healthcare plans (EHP), BC Medical Services Plan (MSP), and health trusts. They are also tax deductible.

Direct Billing is available for many EHPs. Common EHPs include Pacific Blue Cross, Sunlife, Manulife, Canada life, just to name a few. If you're extended health is not listed above and you are wondering if we can direct bill, please contact me.

Pay Privately

When you choose private billing, you pay for your physiotherapy sessions directly at the time of your appointment. We accept various payment methods, including cash, debit, and major credit cards.

After each session, you will receive a detailed receipt that includes all the necessary information for insurance reimbursement, such as the practitioner’s credentials, treatment codes, and a breakdown of fees.

If you have extended health benefits, you can submit this receipt to your insurance provider for possible reimbursement. Many private health plans, such as those through Sun Life, Manulife, or Blue Cross, cover a portion of physiotherapy costs. However, reimbursement policies vary, so we recommend checking with your insurance provider beforehand.

Benefits of Private Billing

Private billing is an excellent option for patients who want to start treatment immediately without waiting for insurance approvals. It also provides flexibility for those whose insurance plans do not offer direct billing or who prefer to manage their claims. Additionally, some patients choose private billing for privacy reasons, as it keeps their medical records separate from insurance documentation.

Who Might Choose Private Billing?

  • Patients with extended health plans that require manual claim submissions

  • Individuals without ICBC or MSP coverage who still need physiotherapy

  • Those who prefer to pay upfront and handle reimbursement independently

  • Clients seeking treatment outside of insurance-covered limits

If you have any questions about or need assistance with insurance submissions, our team is happy to help. We want to ensure your physiotherapy experience is as smooth and convenient as possible, whether you choose direct or private payment.

ICBC Coverage

If you’ve been injured in a car accident in BC, you can make an ICBC claim to cover your physiotherapy treatments. At Kerrisdale Physiotherapy, Aquarius Physiotherapy, and PT Health, we offer direct billing to ICBC, making the process easier for you. Here’s what you need to do:

1. Start Treatment Right Away

  • You don’t need a doctor’s referral to begin physiotherapy under ICBC.

  • ICBC allows 25 treatment sessions within 12 weeks of your accident.

  • Additional sessions may be approved if medically necessary.

2. Bring Your ICBC Claim Number

  • To use direct billing, provide your ICBC claim number at your first appointment.

  • If you don’t have a claim number yet, we can help guide you through the process.

3. Understand the New ICBC Guidelines

  • ICBC’s Enhanced Care coverage includes no-fault benefits, meaning most treatments are fully covered.

  • There are no deductibles or out-of-pocket costs for eligible treatments.

4. We Handle the Billing for You

  • Once you provide your claim details, we’ll bill ICBC directly—no need for upfront payments.

  • Our team stays updated on ICBC policies to ensure a smooth process.

Physiotherapy Billing

WBC Coverage

If you’ve been injured at work, the Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) may cover your physiotherapy treatments to help you recover and return to your job. Dealing with workplace injuries can be stressful, so I aim to make the payment process as straightforward as possible.

To begin treatment under WCB, you’ll first need an approved claim. This means reporting your injury to your employer and filing a claim with WCB as soon as possible. Once your claim is accepted, you can start physiotherapy without any out-of-pocket costs. Physio clinics handle the billing directly with WCB, so you don’t have to worry about paperwork or upfront payments.

If you’re unsure whether your claim has been approved or need help understanding WCB’s requirements, my team is happy to assist. We’ll work with you, your employer, and WCB to ensure your treatments are covered and your recovery stays on track. Just bring your WCB claim number to your first appointment, and we’ll take care of the rest.

For those still waiting on claim approval, we offer flexible options, including private payment, so you don’t have to delay your recovery. Let us know how we can support you through the process.
